At your first visit, we will spend about 30 minutes together talking
about your past/current health situation and the goals you have for your
massage sessions. The goals can, and probably will, change
over time. We will also talk about your preferences (for example, oil / lotion sensitivities)
and physical limitations (for example, ticklishness) for massage therapy.
I will take you through the forms you'll need to fill out
at each visit to communicate your needs and goals for that particular visit.
When you arrive for subsequent visits, I'll have you take a moment to
fill out a form where you can highlight the areas of your body needing attention
that day. The form will also ask if there have been any changes in your
lifestyle, health, or medical conditions since your last visit. Based on this
information, I'll devise a strategy for that day and go over it with you.
Remember that while I am offering my best professional opinion,
you will always be in control of your body during the massage.
You will be asked to disrobe in a closed, private room for Swedish and related
Western modalities. I will obtain your permission before entering the room. You will be fully covered
by a sheet (a ‘drape’, in addition to a blanket if you desire) at all times. Only the body
part being worked on will be uncovered. If you are uncomfortable disrobing and using the draping
technique, we should discuss these topics as part of your pre-session strategy
as clothed massage alternatives may be used.
